I have been seeing these eco-friendly Tru Earth Laundry detergent strips all over Instagram and honestly – it’s been peeking my curiosity. So when Tru Earth asked me to try their strips I was totally game.
The Elephant in the Room – Tru Earth Laundry Detergent Strips
Let’s address the elephant in the room – these are STRIPS…32 LITTLE strips that is intended to replace 1 big bottle of detergent. It just doesn’t make sense in my head. My husband looked at them and pleaded for me to just pick up a bottle of detergent. First impression: these strips may be eco-friendly but I wasn’t sure they would stand the toddler that gets into everything clothes test. It’s literally a strip – a little strip and if you saw my stories you’d know that it’s a strip that my toddler mistook for tissue paper to blow her cute little nose.
Do Tru Earth Strips Work?
I know, I know – you want to know whether these strips work and in short the answer is amazingly yes. A 32-pack of Tru Earth strips cost $19.95 USD with free shipping. As advertised, the packaging is minimal — just a recyclable cardboard envelop with a printed packaging label. Much easier to handle than a giant jug of laundry detergent. I can see packing these in my suitcase on our family vacations to Florida when we stay in villas. It would free up some space in the trunk. These strips are awesome.
I decided to try the detergent on our daughter’s bedding and baby doll dress since my husband did all the laundry before I got the chance to use these. Honestly, I was seriously skeptical of these 2″X4″ strips that weigh less than 3 grams. But after doing her baby doll dress that had chocolate ice cream all over it – I was pleasantly surprised to find her bed linen came out clean and fresh smelling of “Fresh Linen” and baby doll dress free from chocolate ice cream.
What Makes Tru Earth Eco-friendly?
According to Tru Earth, if everyone switched from detergent to Eco-Strips, we would:
Eliminate one billion plastic jugs and save 700 million from landfills. Reduce trucking emissions equivalent to taking 27 million cars per day, or planting nine million trees.
I don’t know how they reached these numbers or whether they are accurate. However, there’s no question Tru Earth strips are much more efficient to package and transport than jugs of liquid detergent.
The brand also claims that 400 loads-worth of strips take the same space as a 100-load jug of detergent. One Tru Earth 3-gram strip weighs 94% less than the 40 grams of detergent needed for a single load. With regard to the environment, Tru Earth’s efficiency translates into less plastic and less carbon emissions from transport.
Final Thoughts
This is definitely a feel good product that has a big impact on the environment and actually WORKS! AND… I think these would also make good home warming/ baby shower gifts. Before you roll your eyes, hear me out – Tru-Earth laundry strips are so unique that they spark a curiosity that makes you want to do laundry and since it works – it’s a win-win! They also come in three scents, Fresh Linen, Baby and Fragrance Free (okay that last one isn’t really a scent but you know what I mean).
My only con is that I wish they were available in stores. So, if you’ve been wondering whether or not you should try these… I say DO IT!
