The Most Underrated Superpower

My son will be turning 5 in a few short days. 🥺

As I was thinking about his life and all the things I love about him I remembered the day he showed me that we all have a superpower.
It was after our car accident and I was finally home from rehab but still in a wheelchair. I was set to get my house back in order and keep it that way. But, it put me in a really bad mom mood. I think I seriously said “What The F-” silently in my head a dozen times as I cleaned up behind my tribe wondering if they noticed I was in a wheelchair. My spirit felt drained. I was exhausted and sleep deprived from night time feedings and pumping sessions. I still hadn’t even brushed my teeth and I needed to do as much as I could before my youngest woke up. The day was still beginning and I already felt so defeated. I began to unload the dish washer when all of a sudden, my son came up to me and said, “you’re the best mom.” He said it so casually before planting a kiss on my cheek and running off. I sat in the kitchen a little taller than I was before. Those words were like – water to my dehydrated mom soul.

He had no idea what those words would mean to me. He was four. He lives by the simple guiding principle to say whatever he’s thinking no matter how random. He had absolutely no idea how his words were so uplifting to my hunched back mom ego. Those words were everything to me. It was like instant transformation, I didn’t feel as tired and I finished putting away those dishes without hearing my inner self yelling another “What The F-!”

Here’s the thing: you actually have the power to make someone’s day. Yes, a kind word speaks life into someone’s world, and you never know when they might desperately need it.

You can make it all worth it. Your kind words can be uplifting to a down spirit. Kind words can energize and keep us going hard for days. So please if you love something about someone, let them know. 10 seconds of your life may make someone’s entire day. That’s a pretty cool super power and we all have it.
