I just had to stop 🛑 for a minute and slow my roll.

Truth is the most wonderful time of year can easily become the most stressful time of year.

As adults we move from experiencing the magic and joy of Christmas to creating it. But often times we get caught up in traditions, decorating, cooking, baking, buying gifts, wrapping gifts and giving gifts because we want to give our loved ones the magic and joy we experienced as kids. I get it, but all that can leave us feeling joyless or less joyful during the holidays.

Here’s 3 things I’m doing to help me approach the holidays with ease:

1. Identify what YOU really want to do - you don’t have to go to every Christmas party or participate in every yankee swap. Or even keep up old traditions that no longer serve you. Do what brings YOU joy.

2. Plan your holiday menu - if you are ordering your dinner try to place the order now to get it off your mind. If you’re cooking then plan your menu now. Print out recipes and create your grocery list.

3. Plan your gift list - planning a gift list helps you stay on budget, keep track of gifts and decreases the likelihood of forgetting someone.

I hope that you can enjoy the wonder of the holiday season and experience a little of the magic and joy for yourself. May your holidays be merry and bright and filled with joy in the blank spaces of your calendar and the spaces you carve out for it.

The tree is up - actually it’s been up since before Thanksgiving. What can I say? I love my trees, I’m also grateful for my @kingofchristmas trees. They make me happy seeing them lit while we eat thanksgiving dinner 🍽 and while watching hallmark movies after the kids are in bed. It’s a two-for-one 💁🏽‍♀️

Have you started Christmas shopping yet? 🎄

There’s only 48 shopping days left and I haven’t even started 🙈 I usually start in October but man, October was a whirlwind of routine changes. Also, trying to feed a family with no fridge/freezer has been a daily challenge.

Yesterday, I was determined to get some holiday shopping done…so I hung up a wreath and then two more 🤪 and put a mini tree on the floor and played Mariah Carey’s Christmas album for good measure - It worked! But I still left my pumpkin scented plug-ins because there’s still Thanksgiving to look forward too 😋

It’s been a rough few weeks…

Our daily routine has changed from day-to-day and top it off our fridge broke. The new one is delayed in transit another week. No one knew anything changed because my kids are All-Stars but also because my favorite oldest daughter has stepped up to help out in so many ways. We kept going - It was hard but we did The. Dang. Thing.

He looks the way I feel this week - 🤪

As a task oriented individual I constantly have to force myself to slow down - to pause. To tell myself it’s the journey not the destination but sometimes it’s hard. It just doesn’t come natural for me but I know it’s important…so I really appreciate these moments when my kids force me to pause and laugh.

To all the moms doing all the things this week - I hope you find moments to rest, pause, laugh and rejuvenate. I know it can be hard but it’s essential. Empty cups don’t fill cups. Heck, full cups don’t fill cups - but overflowing ones do.

Ps - sorry Grayson for making you run out to the wrong bus TWICE. Love ya to the moon & back ~XO
