Whoa…How is it August already? This year is flying by but there’s still plenty of time to knock out some monthly goals in August and beyond. Whether it’s taking a vacation with the family, a couples only getaway, or decluttering your home…a goal is a goal no matter how small. The best part is that you don’t have to wait till New Year’s to set goals and the likelihood of you completing them is much higher. So, if you are like me and suck at New Year’s resolutions, I encourage you to try setting monthly goals.

5 Reasons I Started Setting Monthly Goals
- They help me achieve long-term goals – Monthly goals are those small steps you can take to reach BIG goals. Goals are also much less overwhelming and more achievable when we break them into pieces.
- They keep me accountable – I tend to fizzle out when goals are too far into the future. With monthly goals I like to do a month-end review. It feels good when I accomplished what I set out to do and moytivates me for the next month of goals.
- They help me form new habits – every month I try to incorporate something that will make my life more productive.
- A new month means a fresh start – who doesn’t like a fresh start?
Why I Think You Should Be Setting Monthly Goals
Monthly goals are those small steps you can take to reach BIG goals. It’s a chance to refocus and re-evaluate where you are and where you want to be. When you set monthly goals that motivate you to try something new or let go of a bad habit – you feel proud when you cross it off your list. Lastly, motherhood is such a sweet time that flies by way too fast to not be intentional with our time. We live in a culture that embraces the hot mess mom life that takes us on an express trip to burnout lane. It doesn’t have to be that way. It’s time to switch gears from survival mode to thriving – are you ready to thrive with me? I challenge you to set those monthly goals and don’t forget to keep them realistic. Make them personal, fun and/or challenging. Most importantly make them for YOU!
My goals for August 2021
I keep my monthly goals to 10 max. From experience I learned 10 goals is my sweet spot but that’s just me. I also like to make sure I’m hitting important aspects of my life like, Marriage, Motherhood, Family, and Blogging. Here’s 5 of my goals for August:
1. Date Night With My Husband (Marriage Goals)
With 3 kids life can get busy real quick and intimacy between couples can unintentionally be put on the back burner. I’m all about being intentional this year. This month I want to do a date night with my husband where we both get dressed up – nothing fancy but nice and polished. Stay tuned to see how well we clean up 😉
2. Back To School Shopping (Mom Goals)
Hard to believe that the kids will be going back to school in a few weeks. It feels like summer hasn’t even started – we’ve been getting a lot of rain due to a tropical storm. Anyways, school shopping will be an adventure now that Livi doesn’t need to wear uniforms and is developing her own sense of style. I’m already anticipating picking out a ton of outfits with not one being to her liking. Who thinks she’ll try sneaking a crop top by me?
3. Go Somewhere We’ve Never Been (Family Goals)
My husband just got all our bikes fixed for a family bike ride. I’m thinking of visiting a nearby statepark and riding our bikes across the boardwalk. It’s something we haven’t done since having kids – now if only Mother Nature will give us some rain-free weekends. There’s also a lantarn exhibit at a nearby zoo we’ve never been too that looks pretty cool. We’ll have to discuss this at our next family meeting.
4. Declutter My House – (Intentional Living Goals)
I feel the pandemic knocked me off my clutter-free game. Its insane how many things creep into your house on a daily basis. Papers from school, topperware from takeout, hand me down clothes and toys from relatives, promotion mugs and the list goes on. But, I truly believe if it doesn’t feel you with joy or make your life easier – you don’t need it in your house. Clutter takes away time from enjoying life and I want to enjoy my life. I want to enjoy this season of motherhood. So, this month I’m being super intentional with decluttering my house.
5. Send Out Newsletter (Blog Goals)
I haven’t really been consistent with sending newsletters and here’s why…the idea actually totally overwhelms me. Should I send newsletters weekly, bi-weekly or monthly? Too little and you risk being forgotten. Too much and you risk being deleted without even being read. I’m not sure what exactly is the magic number but you can be sure that whatever I send will be with love – so, don’t miss it! Drop your email to subscribe to my blog and get a newsletter from me sometime this month. *POOF* just like that – you are my accountability buddy.
