Valentine’s Day is about love- and love isn’t exclusive. Single? Host a Galentine’s Day brunch. Not single? Host a couples brunch. It’s totally up to you but in my opinion Valentine’s Day is more fun when you share it with a group of people you love regardless of their relationship status. You can modify this for gals only, couples or just friends. Annnd you can down size it for a brunch for two – like I said, it’s totally up to you.

What is Galentine’s Day?
The term “Galentine’s Day” was first coined by the character Leslie Knope on an episode of Parks and Recreation back in 2010. Galentine’s Day is typically celebrated February 13th to celebrate your girl friends and making them feel loved and appreciated. But, most Americans are moving away from celebrating back-to-back holidays and celebrating Galentine on February 14th.
For me Galentine started as a teenager when my sister was so bummed about not having a valentine. In an effort to cheer her up, I suggested we’d be each other’s valentine. Why not?! Yup, we showered each other with gifts and paraded them around school, lol. After school we laid in our bunk beds eating our sweets and laughing about nonsense. It was super fun and we did it every year after that. Each year we expanded our celebration to our best gal pals. It was our way of bombing an exclusive holiday for sweethearts and having fun as sisters and friends! We didn’t know it then but it was our version of Galentine’s Day!
One of the best parts about Galentine’s Day is that all of the single ladies can feel loved and appreciated too. It’s also a great opportunity to spend time with your crew of strong and inspiring female friends. You can celebrate any way you want but one of the easiest ways to celebrate is – brunch! Here’s some tips to plan the perfect girly Galentine’s brunch.
How to Pull Off A Galentine’s Day Brunch at Home?
Choose a Theme
Love as a theme is implied (duh!) but don’t be afraid to get creative…Glam Brunch or Wild, Single and Free Brunch – the possibilities are endless. If you still aren’t sure poll your friends for suggestions.
Color Scheme
You can go classic red and white, pink and gold or something that fits your theme. If you are doing a wild, single and free themed brunch then you may want to include animal prints in your color scheme. For me, I really felt gravitated to a pink and gold color scheme that oozes femininity.
Send Invitations
Traditionally Galentine’s Day is celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, but…if all your friends are single why not holiday bomb Valentine’s Day? It would make the day more tolerable and honestly there’s no rules that say when you have to celebrate Galentine’s Day. If the date falls on a busy weekday or to fit everyone’s schedule, opt for the weekend or to celebrate before or after the actual holiday.
I love a good old fashion invitation even if I have to send it via text. Start thinking date, location and time. Depending on your theme your location can be someone’s house, hotel room, restaurant or some other venue. With the pandemic still present – a cozy home gathering with just a few friends may be a great alternative. Here’s a sample of a Galentine’s Day Brunch invitation:
Decorations
Set the tone of your event with decorations. Balloons, streamers, photo booth…not only are they inexpensive but they add dimension. You can do classic red and white, pink and gold or create your own color scheme to fit your theme. You can even get balloons that spell Galentine, love or #GALS.
Create a Festive Table Setting
Since it is a brunch after all the table should be the most eye catching decor. That’s not to say it has to be over the top. A couple pink and white flower arrangements, gold candle holders, pink runner along with a fancy detailed plates alongside gold utensils scream feminine and glam. These can all be modified to fit your color scheme but you get the idea.
What to Serve
Mini pastries and donuts from your local bakery served with parfaits and fresh berries are great options for a no-cooking required option. Or you can add or opt for heart shaped red velvet waffles, heart shaped bacon drizzled in maple syrup and scrambled eggs. And no Galentine’s Day is complete without some sweets! Add a cake or heart shaped cupcakes for easy grabbing. You can also add more sweets if you want like macarons, chocolates, chocolate covered strawberries, heart shaped chocolate sugar cookies, etc. Oh, and don’t forget the Mimosas!
Tips:
- Buy assorted baked goods from your local bakery (look for mini size or cut them in half so guests can try a few different kinds)
- Make your parfaits ahead of time in fancy glasses so guests can easily grab one. It also saves room on your table and adds to the decor.
- Keep desserts bite size. They look cute and one little bite is so much more irresistible.
- Buy small bottles of wine for easier grab and control of how much alcohol they would like to add. It also keeps drinks fresh.
Gift Bags or Gift Exchange
Last but not least send your guest home with some gift bags filled with your favorite products. Use reusuable totes for sustainability and a sweet reminder of the fun occassion. Or you can do a white elephant gift exchange for fun or secret Galentine.
Some ideas for gift bags:
- Scented candles
- Jewelry
- Face mask
- lip balms
- Notebook/journal
- Scarf
I hope that you have a wonderful Galentine’s Day celebrating friendships and support for eachother. Don’t forget to come back and let me know if you used any of these tips and spill the tea on all the fun you had with your gals.
