I have a feeling that after the covid quarantine most of us will have a lot of baby showers to attend. I recently found out my niece is expecting and feeling a bit anxious. Since she is expecting a boy I didn’t have too much to pass down. So my wheels were spinning on ways to bless her. I love handwritten letters and care packages so making a baby gift basket is definitely my happy place and you get more bang for your dollar with a DIY gift basket.

Baby Gift Basket Theme
I like to get an idea what the mom’s baby style is and create a baby gift basket with that in mind. Usually a gift registry is an ideal place to start. If they don’t have a gift registry then a conversation with the expecting mom works well. Are you worried it’ll shine a light on your surprise? This can actually be more subtle than you think since most expecting moms are always happy to share details of welcoming their little one into the world.
Think Out of the [Gift] Basket
Baby gift baskets don’t necessarily have to be in a basket. Think of things that can be repurposed. A baby bath tub, crate, hamper or diaper bag are great alternatives and eliminates waste. Whatever you decide will also help set the sub theme. For instance if you do a baby bath tub then you might want to fill it with bath time essentials like bath soap, lotion, bubbles, bath toys, bath toy container, towels, wash cloths and a few pieces that are not only cute but add thought and personality.
When my kids were babies I loved bathing them just before bed and reading them a book. So adding pajamas (various sizes), onesies (various sizes), blanket, a stuff animal and a bedtime book with a handwritten card expressing the preciousness of bath/bedtime, was perfect. Don’t be afraid to personalize your gift.
Baby Gift Basket Must Haves
Diapers is a must and no mom will ever turn down diapers. But keep in mind that others may also gift diapers and babies grow quickly so opt for a size other than newborn. Fun fact, Teigan was 11 months old when we went to the store and bought her a pack of diapers. We received so many diapers in different sizes from our friends. That was the best gift ever in my opinion because diapers are pretty pricey these days.
No matter what your theme is always, always include diapers & wipes. It doesn’t have to be a big box. I sometimes use the small packages as filler for my baby gift baskets. This helps display the nicer items and reduces the need to use tissue paper or cardboard.
My Favorite Stores
I love to mix and match from small boutiques to big box brands. In the end my baby gift baskets still end up far cheaper than those ready made baskets and packed with 3 times the goodies.
- Logan & Co Bowtique – for the cutest bows and headbands
- Bukubee Baby – for the cutest moccasins in every color you can imagine
- Walmart – for inexpensive onesies, basic baby soap, lotions, hygiene kits, diapers
- Target – for more unique brands like Honest Company
- T.J Maxx – for my cute pieces.
