Alright mama, I recently purchased a Bentgo Kids lunch box and backpack and I must say they are pretty awesome! At first I was hesitant to hit that check out button because of the price but I did it. Now, after receiving them and using them for some time now I can say they are worth every penny.

Bentgo Lunch Box Review
What is a Bentgo Lunch Box?
The Bentgo lunch box is a bento-style lunch box that saves time and waste of individual bagging. It is a compact container with dividers that allows you to pack a single serving of a main dish along with sides. It’s great for toddlers who are grazers to adults who are trying to portion control. It can be used for lunch or snacks on-the-go. Even if you use topperware – using a bento box is less to wash than 3-4 topperware and easy to carry. But wait, not all bento-boxes are made equally. Being frugal I bought many cheaper bento-style lunch boxes that all leaked and ended up costing more than one Bentgo lunch box. The Bentgo in my opinion is far superior than the ones I have used in the past, here’s why…
Bentgo Kids Lunch Box, the Well Made Lunch box
There are several things I love about this bento lunch box:
- Compartments
- Ease of Use
- Leak-proof
- Durabilty
- The variety of fun prints to choose from
- Warranty

Compartments
My 2 year old daughter uses her Bentgo Kids leak proof lunch box for child care and it’s very easy for her to open on her own. The little compartments holds the right amount of food for my toddler. There is a compartment for half a sandwich, dips, veggies, fruit and crackers. The lunch box is microwave safe (up to 3 minutes) and allows for me to put leftovers the night before and warm up in the morning before adding fruits and veggies.
Ease of Use
The Bentgo Kids leak proof lunchbox fits easily in a bag or backpack. I love the size of the lunchbox because it’s just the right size for my toddler. The hinges isn’t like typical hinges and is very easy for my toddler to open on her own. The compartment tray is removable making it easy to clean. It is advertised as dishwasher safe which would normally be a plus but our new apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher so I can’t vouch for that.
Leak Proof
I have bought several different lunch boxes with compartments and they all seem to leak or spill into nearby compartments. With the Bentgo Kids lunchbox there’s no leaking and there’s also a spot for sauces like ketchup, ranch and any other kind of sauces without spilling into other compartments. My daughter has dropped her lunchbox multiple times and the food remains in place. The leak-proof design is due to the rubber seal on the lid.
Durabilty
The lunchbox is made of a hard BPA-free plastic and has held up pretty well against my toddler’s rough handling.
The Variety of Fun Prints
The other cool thing about the lunch box is the fun and vibrant print. There are so many different prints for both girls and boys that you are sure to find one that your little one will love. From rocket ships to trucks and Mermaids to Unicorns…there are so many fun prints! My daughter loves unicorns so I got the purple unicorn for her and she loves it.
Warranty
The lunch box comes with a two-year warranty which makes it an even better purchase. Oh it was the reviews of other buyers as well as the warranty that really convince me to purchase this lunch box. I don’t believe we will need a warranty because the lunch box is actually really well-made but it’s nice to know that there is a warranty. If you are on the bench regarding the price I would think the warranty would help push you to buy because you have nothing to lose. I have gone through several different banks to lunch boxes and have wasted so much money. This just seemed like a no brainer to try and see if I liked it – turns out I love it and I think you will too!
Need lunch inspiration? Here’s 5 Bento Lunch Box Ideas
I really dread making school lunches or at least I use to before I got into bento box lunches. Before bento box lunches, I was usually packing the same thing over and over and my kids weren’t even eating them. The other problem with lunch prep before bento box was trying to fit a bunch of topperware in their lunch bag. Bento box lunches are easier and eco-friendly and Bentgo lunch box is the perfect bento box. Now for some bento box lunch inspiration for your new Bentgo lunch box:
#1 English muffin pizza, apple slices, cherry tomatoes and a fruit and nut bar like Larabars
#2 Turkey and cheese sandwich, strawberries, carrot sticks and Hippeas
#3 Chicken wrap, sliced cucumbers, grapes and sweet potato crackers
#4 Ritz crackers, celery sticks, sliced cheese, ranch dip and chocolate chips
#5 Ham & cheese rollups, Hippeas, celery sticks, peanut butter, Teddy grahams crackers
The Bentgo Kids Backpack Review
There are several things I love about the Bentgo backpack:
-
- Built-in lunch bag
- Size
- Quality
- Variety of fun prints
- Lightweight
- Warranty
The Built-in Lunch Bag
The built-in lunch bag is a favorite with me but I can see how some parents might not like the fact that it is attached to the actual backpack and cannot be removed. My toddler is in a home based childcare so it’s not much of a problem for me. However kids who are in daycare or kindergarten may find it problematic as you have to carry your lunchbox and utensils separately. Ultimately, it comes down to your child’s classroom set up. As of right now my son eats lunch in his classroom and so the attached lunch bag is not a problem for him. There are benefits to having the lunchbox attached because it’s less likely to be forgotten at home. If I were to improve anything it would be to make the lunch bag removable so the kids can actually take it off for lunchtime.
Size
The size of the backpack is a nice size for my intended use. It has several different compartments which allows me to pack her butt bag (diapers, wipes, cream, sanitizer) and also a change of clothes and her Cuddle + Kind stuffed bunny folded in with plenty of room to spare. Some parents mentioned that the bag was not wired to hold the child’s school folder. The bag holds my son’s school folder without a problem however, it is a perfect fit and would benefit from an inch or two bigger. This would alleviate tension on the bag causing breakage due to rough handling.
Quality
The bag is a great quality as it is resistant to staining(use a damp cloth to wipe clean), sturdy and padded with plenty of compartments. The attached lunchbox is double insulated and also has a mesh pocket to hold an ice pack. There’s also a side mesh compartment to hold a standard water bottle. The other great thing about this bag is that it has a padded back, padded adjustable straps and an optional chest strap. The measurements or product specifications is as follows:
Overall Size: 16.5” L x 11” W x 7.5” D
Insulated Lunch Compartment Size: 2.5” L x 11” W x 7” D
Front Compartment: 12.5” L x 11” W x 2” D
Main Compartment: 12.5” L x 11” W x 7” D
Padded Handle: 6” L x 1.5” W
Shoulder Straps: Max: 31” Long, Min: 17” Long
Chest Strap: Max: 3” Long, Min: 10” Long
External Mesh Pocket – Holds a standard size water bottle: 7” W x 5.75” H
Variety of Fun Prints
Just like the Bentgo lunchbox the Bentgo backpack comes in so many fun prints. From rocketships to trucks and mermaids to unicorns, you’re sure to find a backpack design your little one loves. The other thing with the backpack is that the prints match the lunchbox. If you want it to match them you can do that or you can mix-and-match. I bought the rainbow and butterfly backpack to go with our unicorn lunchbox. Maybe next time I’ll buy the matching lunchbox but my daughter loves both of them so it just works for us. Don’t be afraid to mix prints if one print is sold out (as they typically are because they sell fast).
Lightweight
The bag is very lightweight and easy to carry. My toddler carries it on her back although it is a little big, she’s still able to carry it without a problem.
Warranty
Just like the lunchbox the backpack has a two year warranty. I love this option because my kids go through backpacks like crazy. I don’t think that this would be the case with this backpack as it is very well-made. Having a warranty just adds value to the backpack as a just in case my kids a rough handle the bag itself so if the price is holding you back consider the two-year warranty.
