As a parent you know what’s best for your child whether you decide to send them to school, homeschool or virtual learning. It’s a tough choice to make, but whatever you decide just know that you are doing an amazing job!
I say that because not only do I believe that someone needs to hear that but I also need an affirmation. Yesterday Grayson had a melt down about not having any friends. I got a new phone and not all the contacts were transferred so he hasn’t been in contact with any of his friends and he’s feeling very alone. I want to protect my kids but I’m not sure what the right answer is in this situation. Honestly, I don’t think there is a right answer just the best choice. I’ve been keeping my kids away from people for so long that it’s really hurting them psychologically. Both Grayson and Olivia have melt downs at different times and sometimes in the same day and it takes a toll on me. I am trying – and I know that’s enough but sometimes believing that is hard.
Back to School Update:
So here’s the update – at first both kids were doing 9 weeks 100% remote. We were beginning to prepare ourselves for this method of learning when we got an email from another school we had been on the waiting list for since before the pandemic. That school will be doing 2 days in school and the remaining days remotely. At first it was hard because mentally I already accepted the 9 weeks of remote learning and felt comfortable with that decision. But then the tornado touch ground, Grayson had the melt down I mentioned earlier and my husband expressed concern about his ability to work from home with all the kids at home. It was a lot to digest and I felt like I just had – enough. I felt like I was failing despite my hardest efforts to do the right thing.
After some re-evaluating this is our back to school plans, I won’t say this is our final plan because it may change but this is our plan at the moment. Grayson will go to school 2 days and Teigan will go to childcare 2 days. Livi will do remote learning at home and Floyd will have 2 days to focus on work. We are still figuring things out like many working parents are but we’ll focus on the positives and adapt accordingly.
