Last year our city cancelled Halloween. This year I’m not sure if our town will have trick-or-treating but I’m leaning towards safer alternatives to keep my family safe.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Last Halloween I noticed that our new neighborhood decorated for Halloween. Some of the yards were filled with over the top decorations. There were so many fake spider webs, caution tape and giant blowups on display last year that I’m betting they’ll do it again this year – fingers crossed.
And since my kids love those Highlights Look & Find books I thought a Halloween Scavenger Hunt is sure to be a hit. Heck, I love them too – so, I’m looking forward to walking around the neighborhood with my kids to check out everyone’s Halloween decor. It’s also a great way to get the kids out the house, off their tablets and keep everyone safe.
The object of the Halloween Scavenger Hunt is to search your neighborhood, community or surrounding to find all the Halloween items listed! It’s fun for all ages. I’ll keep it friendly for my toddler with a simplified version. Teigan is in the “I can do it myself” stage and so I made a simplified version that promotes the development of self-indepence.
As for my older two kids who are 6 and 12 and slightly competitive – I’ll do a friendly competition with a sweet treat for the winner. Afterwards we will all enjoy a Halloween themed lunch at the park. I got some really cool and easy Halloween themed lunch ideas from The Dating Divas.

- The first person who spies an item gets to cross it off their list. This method works best with older kids and adults. The person who completes their list or has the most crossed off wins.
