I can’t believe that my oldest will be 12 tomorrow. It sounds cliche but seriously, where has the time gone? Each birthday seems to hit me differently and this one is no exception. This is the final year of Livi’s childhood before becoming an official teen…excuse me why I go cry. Her 12th birthday is giving me all the feels.
Dear Livi
Today is your 12th birthday. I have known you for 12 whole years since your day one. I was there for all of your first – your first tooth, first taste of solid food, first steps, first loose tooth, first day of school. Each one of your first was also a first for me as a new mom. You were truly my trial and error baby but we survived. I want you to know that I treasure all the memories we’ve shared throughout the past 12 years. I know that these months will be the last few months of your childhood before you are an official teen.
Warning, Proceed With Caution
[pre]teen years can be complicated. Your dad and I will try our best to help you through them but there will be times when you won’t agree with our decision. I hope you know that while you disagree it’s coming from a place of love and the very best intentions. You’ve never been a teen before and I’ve never been a parent of a tween before but it’ll be an adventure we’ll navigate through together (daddy too).
As you get older you’ll get more responsibilities, more freedom and have to make your own choices. Don’t be scared but not all your choices will be good ones. There will be consequences (some will last for years) so make choices carefully. Don’t be afraid to ask us for advice when you’re feeling uncertain. Most importantly know that we will always love you and there’s nothing you can do that will ever change that.
12th Birthday Wishes
My wish for you this year is to have fun. Enjoy the final months of your childhood, watch all the goofy movies, sing your heart out, dance in the mirror, laugh out loud and soak up everything that 12 has to offer. You will be a teen soon enough – but for now, know that these are the days you’ll look back at so make good memories. Happy 12th birthday, baby girl!
I love you, Kiddo.
With Love From Mom
