Okay y’all, Easter this year was almost a disaster. I kid you not, I’ve been kind of feeling down and it was hard to get into Easter this year. When I finally came around it was pretty much too late in the game. When we moved we threw away our easter eggs and I was left on an egg hunt of my own. But, store after store the outcome was the same – plastic eggs were sold out! Now I don’t usually do baskets but this year I wanted to try it but totally bombed. Just like the eggs, Easter baskets were also sold out. My poor husband was the unfortunate soul that was with me when I practically had a mommy melt down in the Easter aisle (yeah – sorry babe!)
Coming Back To My Senses
Once the wave of emotions subsided I pulled myself together with a reality check. My kids never had Easter baskets, don’t expect them and quite honestly I don’t understand the reason for them. It’s like Christmas in April and a lot of unnecessary pressure on parents who are living on a budget. My kids are pretty content with an scavenger egg hunt with a treat at the end. So no need for baskets but I still needed the eggs…but there are none.
Turning a Mom Fail Into a Mom Win
I manage to get them each chocolate bunnies with a mini chocolate carrot and a practical gift. Since I didn’t have the plastic eggs so I made a quick puzzle that they could put together to reveal the most important clue of where to find their Easter treat. Pretty brilliant right? My kids loved it and it was nice seeing them working together to put the puzzle together. Oh, and then it hit me – our new Easter tradition.
Our New Easter Tradition – Easter Puzzle Egg Hunt
Next Easter I will definitely have my act together. I already ordered my plastic metallic Easter eggs from Amazon. We’ll take some pictures this weekend and I’ll choose one to use for the custom picture puzzle from Shutterfly. I don’t think I’m a Easter Basket mom and will keep it simple – just do a chocolate bunny sitting on their prize. Prizes can be practical (my personal fav) or an experience like a family movie night or day at the zoo. The kids still have fun, eat minimal sugar and ge a prize upon completion. Kids are happy and mama saved money – it’s a win-win!
