I admit when we were considering vacation spots we were thinking sunny Florida. This year we were on the fence on whether a vacation was a good idea as the country is slowly recovering from a pandemic. Our last minute decision made a Florida vacation impossible as everything was booked. So, we decided to look at things closer to home like – Buffalo, NY. Niagara Falls
They say its much more impressive and fun on the Canada side so if you can cross over – do it. The border was still currently closed when we went to the falls but we could see the Niagara Sky Wheel and Skylon Tower from across the way. Although, the view of the falls is more visible from the Canada side it is still enjoyable from the New York side. There are also several trails you can do to experience the falls up close like Devil’s Hole State Park Gorge Trail. The Cave of the Winds Pavilion is also a very up close experience of the falls that is sure to leave a lasting impression. You can conclude your night with the Niagar Falls illumination show that starts at 8:30pm.
Buffalo Zoo
The Buffalo Zoo is the 3rd oldest zoo in the country. There’s lively animal shows and encounters throughout this 23.5-acre zoological park. Tigers, sea lions and rhinos are just a few of the animals that you can get a closer look at.
Explore & More Children’s Museum
The Explore & More Children’s Museum is similar to our Boston Children’s Museum but had different exhibits throughout the 40,000-square-foot institution. Here the kids can explore educational and captivating play zones. When we went they had a scavenger hunt of throughout the 3 exhibit floors. Once we were finished the kids brought their cards to an Explore & More employee and received their prizes. Our favorite exhibits were the rooftop and treehouse exhibits.
Six Flags Lake Darien
This Six Flags is filled with all kinds of rides from family to thrill and is right by Lake Darien. the coolest part is that you can rent a cabin on the lake and get some low key camping and amusement. There are cabins that are by the lake and directly across from Six Flags. If you prefer a hotel we stayed in at the Hilton Embassy Suites hotel 37 minutes away, complete with a hot breakfast every morning.
Aquarium of Niagara Falls
At the Aquarium of Niagara Falls you can explore jellyfish, seals and penguins. Play a game of peek-a-boo with clownfish and learn more about endangered species.
Anchor Bar
Did you ever wonder why they call Buffalo wings – buffalo wings? Jessica Simpson stated the obvious buffalos don’t have wings? So why are they called Buffalo wings? Well, it all makes since when you eat at the place that started it all in 1964. The Anchor Bar is known for selling the best wings at different heat levels and are hands down the best Buffalo wings in – Buffalo!
Billy Beez
Looking to burn some energy? Billy Beez is the ultimate indoor kiddie playground for all ages. A massive play area filled with activities, towers, tunnels and slides complete with bouncy trampolines and ball blasters. Your whole family is sure to have fun in this 20,000-square-foot indoor playground.
